Movie Research: Carry on
What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
Carry on is an action-thriller movie. Upon researching this movie, I came across some conventions such as the dark and mysterious setting. The overall airport setting was somewhat ere, however the real mysterious setting was the less crowded airport backrooms the characters would maneuver through. Additionally, this film followed thriller-movie camera shot conventions such as close-ups and extreme close-ups to create anxiety or tension. These shots were also used to really enforce the character’s emotions
What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked?
We were very fond of the acting conventions in this film which was filled with intense emotions having to be masked. There was a clear antagonistic force, whose identity was masked at first, which we plan to include in our film. We also were very drawn to the frequent use of tracking shots that followed the countless action in this film. We plan to embed this camera movement tactic.
What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are thinking of not filming for your final task?
While researching we saw some conventions we knew we wanted to keep out of our film such as slow zooms as they slow down the fast paced atmosphere we wanted to create. Secondly, slow motion clips to somewhat freeze the action worked very well in this film and most thrillers, however, we do not believe it will work very well in our film. Lastly there were some Dutch angles used in this film which we do not really feel will fit well in our film.
