Planning Blog: Title Design
Font:
The main font we will use will be copperplate. We will use this font for all the titles except the movie title. For the movie title we will use the font animatic. The name of the person who did the job will be in the bolded and italic version of copperplate. Here is an example:
Our main focus when it comes to the text color will be that it does not blend into the background of our film. We will use various different scenes with various different backgrounds. We plan to keep a black, white and red color scheme when it comes to our text. We will analyze each scheme and look for the best corner to place the text and then the corresponding color out of the three to make it pop. An example is in a bedroom with light colored walls we will use black:
Size:
The titles will very in size depending on the importance of the text. For example, the name of the studio and production company will be slightly larger then the other movie contributors. Lastly, the final title of the film will be the largest size as it’s the most important for the audience to read.
Working title:
As of right now we believe the title of our film will be “what happened last night”. It will be obvious to the audience that the main characters had a problematic night and are trying to hide it. The truth will be alluded to all throughout our film but not be disclosed to retain suspense. We believe this will be a good title as the built-up suspense of the entire situation and the anonymous letters will be brought to a peak when these words appear on screen.
Entering and leaving the screen:
The titles will fade onto the screen then fade out. The titles regarding the contributors to the film will appear gradually as the film progresses starting from the name of the Studio, then the name of the Production Company, then comes the actors names, the film Title, then who the music is by, edited by, then who it is produced by, the who the story is by, the who it is written by, then who it is directed by, e within the last 2 seconds of the opening sequence. After these titles, the title of the film will appear again at the very end of the film. We plan to have the projected title, “What happened last night”, be written on a letter from the antagonist and then fade or transfer onto the screen.
How long each title will be on screen:
The title will be displayed for around 5-7 seconds at first. Then the background begins to fade to black, and the lettering will become more intense while the title is still on screen. In total our final title will be on screen for around 10 seconds. The other titles, displaying the contributors to the film will last on the screen for 3-5 seconds, depending on the amount of text.
