Mis-En-Scene:

  • Costumes: For costumes it would be normal basic everyday clothes that are mostly neutral or dark colors. Disguises or masks also would be used in thrillers to create suspense and mystery in a character.

  • Lighting: The lighting in thrillers would be low or dimmed lighting in order to create that suspenseful feeling in certain scenes. Unlike horror movies, thrillers also tend to have brighter lighting with shadows. There would also be flickering lights to create tension in scenes.

  • Acting: Actors would have to have a calm tone, but also create a sense of fear. Their body language would have to show fear and unease. The actors would also have to show vulnerability and show how stressed or concerned they are in the scenes.

  • Makeup: Makeup would be natural depending on the characters but also there would be special effects makeup like fake injuries or blood.

  • Props: Some props would be documents like letters, maps, or files. There would also be weapons or items that are significant to the movie.

Film Examples: Don’t worry darling, The call, The Weekend Away, Black Swan, and American Psycho.

Elements I like: Some elements I like would be the suspenseful settings and special makeup used to create an uneasy feeling. The acting is also very good since the actors face to show fear and stressful emotions that make the audience also feel that suspense. I also love the sense of wonder and engagement that these films cause

Elements I don't like: Thrillers always have a relatively predictable plot. The endings are sometimes often rushed to retain attention which is at times unenjoyable.
