Finally Finalizing the Music Video!
Hey blog readers! I'm Jack, the editor, and I have some super exciting news! For context, I last updated you all on the start of editing in the production process for my music video. To provide a current update, we have officially finished editing! This means the music video will soon be published and available for all to enjoy! But before that, let's talk about how we got here. Following the first FaceTime call where we sifted through footage and edited the music, my group, Salome, Francesco, and Valentina, met up the next night to wrap it all up. I started with the opening scene and trimmed the song in the beginning to match the shot being used. I also cut out part of the shot where we see Salome start to drive because I wanted it to look like she was already driving. I then added in the second scene and made sure it lined up with the music. However, with the second scene where we see the main girl walking into her new house, I thought it would be fun to add in another perspective of the same scene. This could also help to avoid the music video feeling flat. So I added in an extra clip and it all blended perfectly. I wanted to use this same method for the next scene, where the new girl lays sad in her bed on her phone. So I scoured through my film folder in my camera role and picked out different types of angles I filmed for this scene. I then lined all of these together and made each angle change line up with the beat of the song. My group and I loved this! For the scene of Salome texting, I came up with an idea to do a split screen. This would split the screen to show both Salome laying in her bed on her phone and the phone screen, alluding to the fact that she is texting in her bed. Incase you don't remember, last production blog I mentioned my idea to do a transition through Salome's hair. The next scene used this one and the transition ended up looking amazing. But the scene shown beforehand, showing the new girl looking at her new friends, I broke up the clip into multiple parts and with each part a beat would play in the song. The part that I struggled the most with was the friendship montage. I wanted to match the song's musicality and relate it to the evolution of the new girls friendship growing with her new friends. So in the music video I put the scenes filmed where we excluded the new girl and then when the beat drops in the song, I placed all the scenes when the friend group is unified. With these scenes, I repeated the same technique I've been using throughout the music video, matching the scene changes to the beats in the song. This concludes my contribution to the editing process. In my next blog, you'll finally see this inspiring music video. I can't wait!
