A few music video pitches!
Pitch 1:
Song - Friday by Rebecca Black
This music video would follow the storyline of two teenagers having a fun night out that leads to irresponsible decisions and dramatic consequences. While this is happening two other teenagers are trying to intervene and stop them from doing these actions, but they don't listen and face the consequences before receiving help.
Conversation: Although this was a strong contender, after making an overall comparison, a better option was chosen. Even with the strong purpose behind this, we found as a group our chosen pitch to be much more powerful with its meaning and speak to a larger audience. We found the values in the chosen pitch to be more universal, rather than speaking to few people. Having more universal values helps more people to be inspired by the music video, creating a greater purpose for the video.
Pitch 2:
Song - Instant Crush by Daft Punk
This music video will describe the lives of two lovers that are not allowed to be together because of their families and they decided to escape to a far town to get married and have a happy life together. This plan failed because the girl's parents found them and took the girl to a castle and locked her in a room for a very long time. This was the only way the relationship wouldn't occur.
Conversation: When this pitch was presented, it had good feedback, however we decided to choose a better one. This idea was very dramatic and unrealistic, making our audience less engaged and identified. The pitch chosen that has the song Everybody Wants to Rule the World has more global understanding and has the purpose of sharing a feeling and situation that a lot of immigrants have, and no one really talks about, making the music video have a greater intention.
Pitch 3:
Song - Skate by Bruno Mars
A music video that incorporates the experiences of friends skating together. This music video was going to be a video filming the friendship of friends going and getting ready to skate. The skating was going to include the friends in the video trying to learn to skate, and finally learning and enjoying skating with each other.
Conversation: After discussing with my group, we found that this music video pitch is still a good idea. However, this pitch compared to Everybody Wants to Rule the World has less structure in creating a story plot that would create a stronger message to the audience. This led us to concluding with the best pitch for displaying a story and meaning with the pitch of the song Everybody Wants to Rule the World.
Pitch 4:
Song - Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears
A teenager moves to a new town where they miss their old friends and life. The teenager is upset with the move, however, tries to make the best out of it by attempting to join the neighborhood friend group. At first, it is not effective but eventually they integrate themselves into the group and no longer regret their move.
Conversation: After discussion it was assessed that we would be very interested in this video concept. This music video pitch is very moving and sweet as the story goes on. The original tone sets initially engages and invests the audience through emotional appeal. This will result in a more meaningful music video. We also believe this pitch will be extremely fun to film and not as difficult as others are, there are not many settings.
