Movie Research: Don't Worry Darling
What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
Don't Worry Darling is a dystopian thriller which follows many conventions of the genre. Firstly, there was much use of over the shoulder and point of view shots. These shots made it seem like that the stakes for the characters were also the stakes of the audience. This increases the suspense for the audience increasing engagement.
What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked?
This movie included many establishing and wide shots to show the intricate set and show the isolation of the characters. We plan to include this convention in our film to establish loneliness and fear for the characters. Secondly, this film included all types of lighting however there was much use of low-key lighting at the end which we would like to include in our film. This type of lighting highlights the paranoia the characters feel, which is perfect for our film.
What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are thinking of not filming for your final task?
This thriller followed a dystopian or conspiracy narrative, as many do. We agreed to not go this route in our thriller as that type of blog takes much time to develop. Additionally, this film included many birds eye view angles. As much as we would love to include this convention, it is a relatively difficult shot to film as we would need a drone of flying device of some sort.
